Why Interior Designers are an Asset to Your Project
Hey Y’all- It has come to our attention recently, that not everyone in this beautiful world knows or understands what the benefits of hiring an interior designer are or how much time/money hiring one can actually save you. Well grab a notebook and take some notes- we’re about to demystify design & give you the full 411!
Before I start- I feel the need to mention that we can only speak for ourselves, as Omorfiá Designs, on what we offer to our own clients & how we run our business. Although we PRAY that you will never have issues with any company/designer that you choose- sometimes mismatches happen (so do yourself a favor and find the designer that offers what you need & is perfect for your project.) That being said: We are truly honored and grateful any time we are invited into a clients home and chosen to bring their dreams to life!
Out of all of the services we offer including: full service remodels, color consults, new construction, layout design and custom furnishings/window treatments- there is one that stands out above the rest. I believe it is one of the most important and valuable resources we offer... our in-home 2 hour/$99 consultation. We use this “Discovery Session” to gain inspiration, make sure we are understanding your vision and to get your project started off on the right track. As your designer we are part creator, part project manager & part therapist😛! We strive to be as up front as possible and we operate with a CLEAR IS KIND standard (shoutout to Brene’ Brown) so we encourage you to ask questions, get to know your designer and really feel comfortable with your decision to bring us into your life/project.
What you should expect from Omorfiá & any interior designer, you decide to hire for your projects.
Saves Money/Budget- decreases margin of error & avoid costly mistakes “measure twice, order once.” be clear and concise about wants/needs/budget. stops impulse buys. budget hacks- similar look in range of prices. know when to invest and when to save. help with bidding and negotiations between contractors/architects & tradespeople. average “trade pricing” discounts- save roughly 10% going through your designer (ex: a $3,000 bill BUT 10% savings on your $30,000 furniture/furnishings bill = $3,000) designers usually pay for themselves in savings, time & returns!
Save Time/Planning- use time/effort to accumulate good resources (no research time for you.) time tested process, order is key (tried and true method to guide project & stay on track.) simplify your process of making decisions by narrowing down options to their 3-4 best choices (less overwhelming.) anticipate obstacles & plan ahead to avoid them. constantly adjusting schedules and coordinating contractors, orders, installs & client deadlines. project management is time consuming- make an efficient process to achieve your desired outcome & save your sanity.
Professional/Trained Eye- acute attention to detail. immediate consult advantage. keen knowledgeable eye (lighting, furnishings, scale, placement, form/function/color.) aware of space requirements, building codes, inspection regulation. know when to stop adding creative features. warn of potential issues before work begins & creatively find solutions. see potential/how to get the most out of your home (repurpose/reupholster.) make spaces unique, functional and beautiful. total design concept awareness (layout, furnishings, color, construction, plumbing, etc.)
Liaison- project management. know how to speak many “languages” to bridge the gap between client and architects, contractors & tradespeople - stops design miscommunications. key elements like lighting/furnishing/plumbing/electric are addressed before construction. explain your vision to tradespeople and suppliers with detailed ideas, drawings, documents, selections & follow ups. coordinate ordering/delivery & tradespeople/installers with your personal schedule. on site for measurements, assessments and installation. superior communication is key.
Availability of Resources/Contacts- gain access to exclusive products not available to public (connections, resources, general merchandise.) valuable access to showrooms, discounts & knowledge only designers can get. have and use the best design tools (software, 3D visualizations, color samples/swatches, custom materials.) industry contacts/recommendations are invaluable & save time/headaches trying to identify your own reliable resources. procurement of materials/supplies (place/track orders, assess lead times, back orders.)
“Wow” Factor/Visual Storyteller- tell your personal visual story. take risks & “think outside the box.” amazing, homey/livable environment mixed with dazzling, show stopping moments. create room by room statement guides & know where to add elements of drama. enhances your space/quality of life as an investment to your enjoyment. makes a house a home. collected sensibility, remaining personal/unique & true to you. visit site after project completion/finish (ooh & ahh! point out special features, warranties, care instructions, ensure client satisfaction.)
Home Resale- adds to market value/boosts your listing. increase showings/offers & exponentially decreases time on the market. real estate investments= most expensive but increases resale buyer appeal/value of home. demand increases, along with the number of potential buyers. visually pleasing, thoughtfully designed, well balanced aesthetic/function & each individual item is thoughtfully considered with how it fits together as a whole. timeless concepts fair better than specific/stylized trends. cohesive & move in ready vs. potential significant updates.

For anyone new to Omorfia Designs, we’ll take a second to explain our history. We’ve taken the simple concept of the word OMORFIÁ, which means BEAUTY in Greek (ομορφιά; pronounced ō-morf-iá) and turned it into our brand and lifestyle motto! Beauty in a simple description, is a combination of qualities: shape, color, form, etc. that please our aesthetic senses. We aim to bring that beauty and happiness into every home and relationship... we aspire to change your old spaces into new/refreshing/life-giving/“I never want to leave” spaces. It’s a beautiful thing that we are able to alter our homes and lives as we change and grow through, love, trend and time; becoming personalized reflections of our individual personalities.
The Newest Additions to our Family 💚
Our small business has been owned and operated by Ashley & Jared Dupert for the past two and a half years...and NOW just within the last few months, the creative design team has exploded with the addition of 5 designers, a quick learning intern and Trusty, the shop dog! We all work together to cover an array of design elements including: New Construction/Remodeling, Color Consultations, Floor Planning, Custom Window Treatments & Furniture, Interior Styling, Staging and Retail/Commercial Merchandising. Ashley Dupert is the ring leader of our rowdy circus- mother, friend, confidant & boss babe; master of all product knowledge, ever. Aramely Mendez- art connoisseur; representing our Dominican Republic spice. Kelsey Buelow- double duty new construction/designer; new mother to boot. Jordyn Junkermeier- fresh college graduate; teaching old dogs new tricks. Lindsey Peterson- girl mom, powerhouse; construction/house flipping pro. Mya Chan-absorbent sponge and invaluable intern. Zoe Hill- retail and merchandising design extraordinaire; quasi-wordsmith behind this blog. Meanwhile, Jared Dupert takes care of all things techie, reigns in our FB Marketplace purchases, tells the best dad jokes... not to mention, he’s the emotional sounding board for all this estrogen!
Understanding the Dupert’s and their desires with establishing this business will help you to better understand the core of their company and beliefs: raising up local designers and sending them out (better equipped) with the tools they need while forming a family of Godly people, presenting God’s “OMORFIÁ” to all of His children. The premise of this Blog comes from an utterly raw concept- We are each individually designed out of the most wonderful, beautiful Creator’s love for us “Designed with Love” and we use our God-given talents & time to create with that same love/beauty/dedication “Designed by Love” and we are blessed to go out and share it with the world!
Ashley & Jared at Youth Camp 2018; Thessaloniki Greece 💚
The Dupert’s have created strong missionary roots in Greece throughout the last 10 years- helping establish the first school of worship there (The School of David), forming strong heart ties with Greece’s people and falling in love with their culture AND FOOD! They’ve been confirmed time and time again by the Lord to establish a business model that designates a portion of their profits to be donated to various ministries and their allies in Greece. Creating an underlying, yet equally important motto for the company: “Home Town Design, making a Global Impact.” Their ability to hear and listen to the Lord when He tells them where their next donation NEEDS to go, will always keep Sioux Falls at the foreground of their hearts. Being a local small business solidifies the part of a community that is there to support each other... but more than that, it supports its people in need! (On that note: PLEASE reach out if you know of any various local donations being taken up, we will constantly be assessing where God’s money could be most useful!)
Coinciding with our urge to make our company as personal as possible, we plan on covering a wide variety of info on this platform. We’ll share our wealth of collected knowledge on: our favorite local businesses and national companies to work with (better product understanding, brand rep interviews) answering frequently asked questions (general design know-how, client processes, pros/cons, process with an interior designer) input on trends (newest vs. time tested trends) our current projects (before/afters, steps/processes, follow-ups, client interviews) our inspirations (remodels, new builds, decorating/holiday decor, DIYs, random recipes) our tips and tricks (hot items to buy, sales to shop, spend vs. save, quick/easy home updates & how-to’s) BUT some of the most exciting news we’ll be updating you on, will be the Dupert’s remodeling their own home- with a family of 4 daughters (Riley, Peyton, Braylin & Charley) & 3 fur babies- these full-time parents/entrepreneurs/local church leaders will have their work cut out for them. We will be following along with their own story and using them to give you a first-hand look at the entire experience of remodeling their 12-year-old home, developing a design plan, choosing a style, keeping a budget, product knowledge, all the dirty work & going along for the best part... SHOPPING!!

How to Stage Your Home For A Quick Sale
Spring heralds many rituals, and those include home buying and selling season. Many people with families prefer to move in the summer, which means they need to list and sell their home in the spring. If you want your home to attract buyers and sell quickly (who doesn’t!), then you’ll want to learn about home staging.
Home staging is the term for making your home look the most attractive to potential buyers. Taking the time to stage your home makes a huge difference in its appeal, and the time it is on the market.
At Omorfia, our designers help clients stage their homes frequently, so we’ve picked up some tips and tricks. Contact us to have the professional eye for staging your home. Check out these home staging tips that will get you offers in hand and moving on your way.
What’s the Difference Between Preparing a Home for Sale and Home Staging?
When you go to put your home on the market, your real estate agent typically provides some advice for helping your home sell. Preparations may include making small repairs, replacing outdated appliances, or undertaking some upgrades -- such as granite countertops or new lighting fixtures. These changes will stave off buyer’s concerns, make your home more appealing, and allow you to get a better asking price.
Staging your home is all about appearance and presentation. You want to let go as the homeowner and think like the buyer.
A properly staged home looks comfortable, bright, inviting, and, most importantly, like a place the buyers would want to live. If they can’t see themselves in the home, they won’t want to buy it. Your mantra is clean and bright when it comes to home staging for success.
Outside Your Home: Curb Appeal
Apply a fresh coat of mulch and plant some in-bloom flowers. Consider adding pots of flowers on your porch or hanging baskets by your entryway.
Keep the grass mowed and neatly edged.
Trim bushes and trees so they are away from windows and doors.
Wash your windows, inside and out.
Add a bench or chairs to your porch or patio so buyers can envision themselves sitting there.
Buy a new welcome mat to welcome buyers and make your entryway look fresh.
Inside Your Home: Remove Your Personal Touches
If you’re selling your home, it won’t be yours anymore. You might as well begin the process of detaching when you stage it. You don’t want buyers to feel like they’ve stepped into someone else’s home, or that they are invading your privacy.
You want buyers to feel like it could be their home and to imagine themselves living and entertaining there. That means you have some depersonalization to do.
Remove family photos from walls, mantle, and shelves. These only remind buyers that they don’t live here.
Paint over your custom colors with a warm neutral tone. Neutral doesn’t mean boring. It means, “I can make this my own with my accessories and style.”
Make sure there is plenty of light. That may mean removing heavy window treatments or adding more lamps with higher wattage bulbs that can be turned on for showings.
Let the room breathe. Remove furniture from your living spaces to open them up and showcase the size of the room.
Rearrange furniture. Arrange your living room in a conversational manner. Move beds away from the door in bedrooms to show the room to the best advantage. Open up the floor space as much as possible.
Declutter, declutter, declutter. Remove knick knacks from your mantle, put away toys and books. Consider putting items in storage until you move. You want to showcase your home’s square footage, not your personal belongings. A cluttered, overcrowded room will scream “not enough storage space” to a buyer.
If your furniture is old or worn, consider renting furniture that is bold, contemporary, and stylish. Contact us at Omorfia if you are interested in this option.
Kitchens and Bathrooms
A simple investment in a new rug, shower curtain, or color-coordinated towels can make a difference in these critical areas.
Clear off countertops as much as possible so you can showcase your counter space. Put away personal care products in the bathroom, either in the cabinets or baskets.
Consider adding under cabinet lighting if your kitchen is a bit dark. You can add that easily with battery-operated LED lights that mount under the cabinets.
If your cabinets are a bit outdated, this could turn away buyers. A coat of paint can do wonders, especially if you are going from dark cabinets to a bright, reflective white that will make your kitchen or bath feel open and airy. Another easy update is to change the cabinet hardware. New knobs or handles can provide a whole new look.
Pedestal sinks are hot in bathrooms and fairly easily swapped out for your current vanity. Pedestal sinks are inexpensive, easy to install, and make your bathroom look bigger.
Watch out though! Make sure your bathroom flooring extends under your current vanity! You don’t want to pull it out and realize that the tile or vinyl stops at the vanity’s edge. Your simple pedestal sink swap just turned into reflooring your bathroom. If this happens, though, take heart. Your effort will be rewarded when buyers are awed by your updated bathroom.
Clean Everything
Spring is the time for annual deep cleaning, and if you are staging your home for sale, this is doubly true. Now is the time to make sure your home is spic and span, inside and out. Consider hiring a cleaning service to get your home looking new, fresh, and spotless.

Minimalist Design
One of the latest trends for 2019 is minimalist design. This aesthetic is refreshing as it helps create peace of mind as well as order in your home. The minimalist look is modern and edgy. You’ll appreciate the open space and lack of clutter this look provides. Easy to keep styled and tidy, this design is perfect for 2019.
Minimalism is a fantastic way to maintain order in your life and avoid stress. The open and airy space allows for comfort and relaxation. No longer will you be overwhelmed with finding a home for knick-knacks, or struggle to decorate.
The minimalist look is simple, yet bold. Minimalism doesn’t mean you can’t have any personalized design elements. Use a bold color on an accent wall or with your furniture to show your style.
Boho Chic
The relaxed, laid back design of boho chic adds an element of charm to your living space. From vintage-looking furniture to colorful throw pillows and rugs, you’ll love that this look is back in 2019.
Your boho room will boast character and style with layered looks and warm colors. Quite the opposite from the minimalist design, boho is about interesting decor pieces and unique touches.
The design pieces in your boho space should all tell a story, and you can mix elements that are both modern and antique. This fun and fresh style allows you to let your personality shine and customize your space. You’ll have a blast selecting decor and bringing out your wild-child side for this unique aesthetic.
Postmodern
Another unique and eclectic style is the postmodern look. A far cry from minimalism, and reminiscent of boho chic, postmodern combines varying style elements to create a bright and bold space. Retro colors like burnt orange and avocado green make a comeback with this funky and edgy style.
Bold colors for accent walls, quirky furniture, and unique light fixtures all make for the perfect postmodern style. You’ll love the “anything goes” aspect of postmodernism, and have a blast choosing your playful decor.
Statement Ceilings
Does 2019 have you looking for something completely unique and dramatic for your home? You’ve seen accent walls, but how about statement ceilings? Statement ceilings add a pop of color or even pattern to your space.
Whether you go with a bold, solid color, or use wallpaper to feature a geometric design, you’ll wow your guests with a statement ceiling. Your fresh, new ceiling can coordinate with other design elements in your room, or can stand out and grab your attention. Your living space is sure to be original and exciting with a statement ceiling.
Geometric and Tribal Patterns
If you like adding something original and eye-catching to your living space, patterns are a fantastic way to feature your style. Whether you choose the symmetry of geometric patterns or select a tribal print to boost your style, you’ll love the look you’ll achieve,
From throw rugs to furniture to wall art, mixing and matching complementary patterns gives your home a warm feel. Inviting and unique, you’ll enjoy choosing the right pattern for your space.
Color of the Year
Each year, Pantone brings us the color of the year. The color of the year sets the tone for design inspiration. Pantone’s 2019 color of the year does not disappoint, with “Living Coral.” Living Coral is a vibrant coral shade with a golden undertone. Perfect for bringing your space to life and creating a warm look, you’ll love using the color of the year for interior design inspiration.
Whether you choose to go big with an accent wall of living coral or implement it subtly in throw pillows, wall art, and furniture, you’ll have the most up-to-date living space of 2019. This trendy color will look fabulous all year long, and give your home a fresh touch.

Design Tips for your Small Space
Cozy, warm, pleasant, and welcoming; all words that you hope people think of when they are describing your home. If you live in a small living space, you start to realize that it's not as easy as it looks. How are you going to take this small space and transform it into something breathtaking? It seems so easy when they do it on HGTV but why is it so nerve-racking now?
With small house interior design, there are always sets of do's and don'ts that govern how a space transforms. A small space is no exception. If anything, the stakes feel higher because you have less area to work with in your home.
However, working with a small space should not feel daunting. At Omorfia, we have picked up some tips and tricks to help you as you try to navigate interior design for your small house or living space.
Out of Sight, Out of Mind
When doing interior design of a small house or small room, it is always best to make the room as clutter free as possible. Having less clutter in a room gives the illusion of more space. Therefore, when looking for furniture, we recommend finding pieces that can conceal items.
For example, a console would offer ample interior storage and shelving, while providing a more sleek and solid exterior. Coffee tables with hidden storage offer the same thing. If you use your living room often, chances are that you have a lot of stuff floating around that you need daily. Maximize your space by buying furniture with hidden storage.
Going along with this, we recommend buying furniture that has a dual purpose. Providing more than one use helps to make small areas more functional. An example of a small bedroom would be to buy a daybed instead of a full/queen sized bed. You can use it as a couch during the day, thus maximizing that space when you need it. It can easily convert it into a bed at night. Many day beds have additional storage below as well.
A new trend that has taken over by storm is open shelving. While it can look amazing and is very appealing, we do not recommend it for small spaces. It may seem like not having cabinets would make a space feel larger than a room full of cabinets. In reality, if you do not have items strategically placed on the open shelving, it can seem like more of a chaotic mess than a clean, spacious look.
Tall Pieces of Furniture
Choosing some well-designed tall pieces can accentuate high ceilings in a small room. This height can make the room look and feel expansive. Even if your ceilings are not that high, having a tall bookshelf or cabinet can trick the eye into thinking that they are higher than they are.
Again, having storage is key to small space living. Having floor to ceiling storage will make the height of your room seem taller, and provide a spot for all the things you accumulate.
A Mirror, or Two.
Never underestimate the power of a strategically-placed mirror in a small space. Mirrors can make the room appear double in size. That goes for any place, a bedroom, dining room, or living room.
Placing a mirror adjacent to a window or a sliding door can instantly add an airy and spacious vibe to your small space. This is an easy and inexpensive trick that we highly recommend if you are living in a small space.
Small Space doesn't Necessarily Mean Small Furniture.
A lot of times people tend to think that the size of your room dictates the size of furniture to buy. However, you should take that tip with a grain of salt. While of course, you don’t want to buy a piece of furniture that takes up half of your room on its own, you don’t necessarily ONLY have to stick to small furniture.
Say, in a living room, you can buy one or two larger pieces and then some smaller pieces to give some contrast. Having only small furniture can create awkward spaces and gaps throughout the room.
Make the Place Bright
When you are thinking of painting the walls of a small space, think light and bright. Light colors tend to be more reflective and make a space look more open and airy. Now we know, white walls everywhere are not for everyone. Take a trip down to your nearest paint store, and you will be surprised at how many light and bright colors you can find.
For years people have argued not to use dark paints in small spaces because they tend to make areas look even smaller. And while, yes that is true, we believe that throwing an accent wall here or there with a splash of color can have pros that far outweigh the cons.
While the interior design of a small house is all about maximizing your space, it is also about creating a space that is unique to YOU. If that means throwing some darker paint up, so be it. All in moderation. Having one dark wall surrounded by light walls will make the space visually appealing without taking away the look of square-footage.

How to Decorate Your Home Like a Luxury Hotel
We all know the feeling of walking into a nice hotel room, dropping our bags, and falling onto a crisp, white, fluffy hotel bed. Whether it’s the fact that it’s a new bed or the fact that someone else cleans it, hotel rooms inspire a sense of excitement.
If you love the feel of sleeping in a hotel room after a long day of being a tourist, we have good news. You can redesign your home, and in particular, your bedroom, with luxury hotel decor. You will feel like you are walking into a fancy hotel every time you walk through your front door.
At Omorfia, we specialize in bringing beauty into your home. Call us today for a free 30-minute phone conversation. Or we can schedule a 90-minute personal design consultation for $99.00.
In the Bedroom
When it comes to your bedroom, the bed is king. When you walk into a luxury hotel room, the first thing you generally notice is the bed. Usually, beds are placed prominently in the room, and are typically white, fluffy, and decorated with beautiful and inviting pillows. Even more, the room’s curtains perfectly coordinate with the bedding and pillows.
To achieve the luxury hotel look in your bedroom the first step and best place to spend a chunk of money is on the bed. Investing in a supportive mattress will prove worth it when you wake up refreshed every morning. Topping that mattress with high-quality sheets will make for an even better night’s sleep. Go for the highest thread count you can afford.
Finally, purchase a nice down comforter (or down alternative if you are allergic to feathers) and down or memory foam pillows to finish the luxury bed. One thing you will notice is that beds in luxury hotels almost always have a plush headboard. You want to be able to lean against it and still be comfortable.
There is a particular design flow most designers follow in luxury hotels. You will always find a bedside table on each side of the bed with lamps, a desk, some inviting chairs, and a coordinating side table, an armoire, and a television.
The bedroom is a great place to invest your money. You spend a significant amount of time in this room. However, many homeowners skimp in this room, since other people don't often see it.
In the Bathroom
A sign of a truly luxurious hotel is an incredibly serene bathroom. You often feel like you are walking into a spa when you enter the bathroom. Luxury home decor isn’t solely for the living room and bedroom.
In a luxury bathroom, you will most likely find a walk-in shower with glass doors and walls around. To top it off, there are probably full-body jets and a rain shower head. Without a doubt, there is a large tub you can’t wait to soak in.
You also typically find two sinks that are deep and made from an expensive material. When you look up, you will see a large wall mirror with an intricate frame surrounded by fancy lighting. There are plush, soft, and absorbent towels hanging on several racks around the room. And let’s not forget the bathrobe made from high-quality cotton.
If you want to step things up a notch, invest in a towel warmer to ensure a warm towel every time you exit your luxury shower. Imagine your feet never being cold because you have heated flooring. You might never want to leave your bathroom!
Realistically, investing in a beautiful shower curtain, some plush towels, scented candles, and new rugs can drastically update the look of your bathroom.
In the Entryway
Hotel designers know what they’re doing. The first thing you will see to establish your impression of the hotel is the entryway and lobby. You are drawn in by expensive stone, elaborate wood carvings, comfortable plush seating, and orchids galore.
You will see your reflection in fancy mirrors, at least what you can see with the dim lighting. And of course, there is fantastic artwork.
Creating an entryway that rivals luxury hotels can be simple. If you are looking for elegant home decor for your entryway, look for a focal point or centerpiece that will draw the eyes of guests to your home.
Look for a table for your entryway that is sophisticated, but not obtrusive. If you have enough space, look for a large, round table to make a dramatic statement. Find an attractive lamp, a beautiful bowl, a few books to show your interests, and a striking flower arrangement. Avoid fake flowers, though.
If you don’t have space for a table away from the wall, place it against the wall with an intricate mirror above it. If you still have any area, consider an inviting chair that will allow guests a place to sit when removing their shoes.
Throughout the Home
In the rest of your home, there are some things you can do that will scream luxury. Investing in high-quality curtains that coordinate the room decor without being distracting is worth some money.
Controlling temperature is vital. In a luxury hotel, the climate is perfectly controlled, so guests are not too hot or too cold. Consider installing a programmable thermostat to ensure the temperature is always perfect.
Luxury home decor can’t be properly enjoyed without proper lighting. A hotel is always full of beautiful overhead lighting, as well as lamps, sconces, chandeliers, and mood lighting. Install a dimmer to some of your lighting and strategically place lamps throughout your home.
Potentially the most important thing is to achieve the luxury hotel look is home organization. You can make your home feel fancy without purchasing a single piece of luxury home decor if you declutter and arrange your home efficiently. Make a space look purposeful and inviting. Whether a nook or main living area, spaces should be well-designed and free of clutter.
Finally, flowers and greenery are a must! Nothing screams luxury like colorful, fresh-cut flowers throughout your home.
